Bellingen Weather

River Information

As many locals know, flooding can occur in the Bellinger and Kalang Valleys at any time of year. 2009 for example started with an very dry January but the weather turned significantly wetter in February. By November there had been 5 significant floods in the Kalang and Bellinger valleys. Images and graphs from the February 2009 flooding in Bellingen can be seen here.

The live river information page on this site contains current flood graphs from across our region together with an indication of when significant local bridges may be inundated.

As you are likely to be well aware, floods in our Valleys can rise and fall quickly and can occur at any time of year - even in the 'dry season'. There was a significant flood in Bellingen in October 2004. This was an unusual time of year for flooding in town and followed very high rainfall in a short period of time. As can be seen from the graphs below there was a very sharp flood peak but the flood subsided as quickly as it arose.
